Neurosurgery Pictures (continued)

On March 8, 2008, I was granted the honor of introducing the 4th annual Leonard Titrud Lecturer, Dr. Alexa Irene Canady, M.D. Dr. Canady finished neurosurgery residency at the University of Minnesota in 1981, and in 1984 became the first African-American female neurosurgeon. Her pioneering career and spirit have provided great inspiration for many people, including me. Here I am with Dr. Canady.

On May 1, 2008, I was honored at the 76th meeting of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) in Chicago, Illinois with the Byron Cone Pevehouse Award. The Cone Pevehouse Award is granted annually at the AANS to the best resident paper related to socioeconomics in neurosurgery. By the grace of God, I received the award for my investigation into North American versus European infection rates following brain surgery. Here I am presenting my work and receiving the award from Dr. John Wilson, moderator of the 2008 AANS Socioeconomic Plenary Session.

In 2009, at the age of 30, I was selected for the 63rd edition of Marquis Who's Who in America for my contributions to neurosurgery. Here is the official plaque commemorating the event.
